The Winged Empowerment is a show stopper of a neckpiece. It contains silver, rubies, onyx, spinel, garnet and the black material has been 3d printed in polyamide, a durable, hard wearing, lightweight plastic nylon.
I originally designed this piece to showcase at Dundee Fashion Week so it is a perfect catwalk piece or for an awards dinner. It was selected for the 100 Jewels by 100 women exhibition in June 2021.
SIZE – The Black polyamide wing piece is approximately 14cm wide x 15cm length at longest edge by 4cm depth (thick)
The handmade Silver torque is 16cm wide x 16.5cm drop so full length of the neckpiece when worn on the torque is 29cm drop on the chest.
PROCESS
Let me tell you about the process behind creating this exclusive art piece. The labour and artistry costs equate to 60 working days. I spent many hours looking at inspiration from nature and architecture, in particular natural rock formations and was influenced by the angles of Kengo Kuma’s V&A Design Museum in Dundee. Once I focused down on the shapes, form and function, I then worked out how this could translate into wearable art. I started to sketch out designs to work out how the piece will look and how to put the elements together to create a finished piece.
Then I began to sculpt and create the piece. For this piece, I did my sculpting digitally using the Anarkik3d Cloud 9 design software. I spent hours manipulating each surface. Each edge, each line, is crafted and sculpted using this award winning haptic technology. Then I prototype, to see it in real life, to pick it up, to feel it. Next I start to refine the shapes and work with the composition. And finally I chose the materials and gemstones, then select the right place to put the stones and extra surface decoration, to put the right sparkle into the piece.
All of this is an artistic process, I used hours of my creativity and skill to bring this piece together and created the final masterpiece. From the research and development, to the production of the piece, it equates to 400 hours of my skills and expertise.
This art is not for everyone, I’m aiming at a certain demographic. The woman who wears this piece is not wanting to buy jewellery. This woman is wanting to buy statement pieces of wearable art.
